Matt Lamb-

Around the world in 80 events

Hours- 2 Hours

Experience

This guest lecture took place on 05.03.21

In this lecture, Matt Lamb spoke about how he travelled the world going to eighty different events in eight and a half months. He spoke about a range of the different events that he went to all across the world, as well as some difficulties that he faces during this time. Matt discussed how travelling alone can be lonely as well as how expensive a journey like this is. He described how some events exceeded his expectations and also how some were not as good as he expected.

This experience took Matt a very long time to plan and save for, as he had to travel with a very low amount of luggage, as well as ensuring he was in the right country at the right time to attend the events that he wanted to.

This lecture was an insight into to what is possible when a lot of effort is put into planning something, no matter how large it is. The lecture was very interesting and I would like to go to some of the events that Matt Lamb discussed.

Curiosity

Graduate Attribute table

(Morrison 2016)

This whole journey was driven by

curiosity, and it gives a view of how to plan an adventure so large. Curiosity is always important when planning events, but this type of curiosity helps as it generates new ideas for planning your own events. This lecture developed my curiosity

skills because it made me want

to discover more events.

Ekaterina Berdysheva- Virtual event planning and marketing

Hours- 2 Hours

Experience

This guest lecture took place on 09.12.20

In this lecture, Ekaterina Berdysheva focused on the marketing of the Shift business festival 2020. Shift is a two day business festival which provides people with networks, insights and tools to stay future oriented and sustainable. She discussed the history of the event, where it started, and how it has changed over the years.

In 2020 the event had to be moved online due to COVID-19 restrictions, this meant a change in the marketing strategy. They decided to create an online 3D event using the platform Virbela. Ekaterina explained that there were many different factors involved in deciding on a platform to use and this is where they had to decide on what the most important factors of their event was.

This lecture discussed how to create an online event, how to market it and also make it different to others. It gave an insight into a variety of platforms that can be used when hosting online events and also the pros and cons of creating a hybrid event.

Skills

Virtual Events

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, over

the last year virtual events have

become more and more popular, as this has been the only way to host events. This lecture improved my knowledge of how to plan virtual events and also discussed a variety of different platforms to use when creating online events. Knowledge of virtual events will always be useful as creating online events has many benefits, and so they

will still be used even after the

pandemic is over.

Event Marketing

Marketing for an online event

and marketing for an in person

event can be very similar, the

target audeince would be almost the same, however the geographic location can be anywhere as people can join from their homes. This lecture discussed a variety of ways that a virtual event could be marketed

and also why marketing is

important.

Charlie Mussett- COVID-19 and events

Hours- 3 Hours

Experience

This guest lecture took place on 23.04.21

This lecture started by speaking about the impact of COVID-19 on the events industry and how the events may be affected this coming year as well. He discussed a lot of different impacts on festivals and sporting events, and how insurance is a huge issue for many festivals and it may stop them from going ahead.

Charlie then described a range of different events that did go ahead in the past year and what the organisers used to ensure that the correct measures were put in place for the safety of the attendees. He also explored a few events that thought they were going to be okay to go ahead but then decided to not run due to different restrictions, or the fact they did not think they could go ahead safely.

Lastly the lecture looked at how organisers can keep their staff safe when running events and the guidelines to ensure these measures are kept. There is a different set of rules for the safety of staff and for the attendees, and this can be a major factor to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

Skills

COVID-19 Safety

This lecture was very

informative on all areas of

COVID-19 and events, especially creating COVID-19 safety measures for events. COVID-19 will be around for a long time and therefore it is important to keep up with new safety measures and ensure when planning an event all of the rules are

followed to reduce the

risk of spreading.
